Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!...and my mom-in-law too:)

:: Yep it would have been Theodore Geisel's 106th birthday today!...bet you didn't know his real name now did you? (1904-1991)

:: Anna's school is having Dr. Seuss day, as I'm sure many other schools are as well. She and her classmates wore their pjs to school, ate pancakes and read Dr. Seuss books. Cute!
Young cat, if you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you would learn!
The most wonderful stuff!
~Dr. Seuss

She's back to feeling like her old (young) self...

:: Anna was sick for what seems like forever, but really only about a week and a half...she had me pretty concerned. I missed her laugh and smile. The other day we went to visit Linda, and she gave Anna these glasses. I'm not sure if Linda was Elton John in a past life, or maybe Anna, or both?....they seem to have a thing going with sunglasses. Linda finds all kinds of different ones for Anna. This is the latest model~
:: And, notice the quilt?....(insert self indulgent smile here). I'm so happy to see her using it:0)

Rainy Day Crafts

:: These are some pictures from yesterday. We had a rainy, windy, cold day.....time to bring out the crafts! We made some LOVELY foam bead necklaces and some caterpillars (not pictured) made from pipe cleaners and little pom pom balls. As I'm sitting with her almost bored out of my mind thinking of all the other things I should be attending she says to me, "mommy, isn't this just the best day ever!". Just then my boredom left the building and I realized how lucky I was to be sitting there with her having the best day ever! Kids sure know how to bring a person back to center. :0)

:: And, compared to today, yesterday really was the best day ever.......This morning I go out to the kitchen to pour my first cup of coffee of the day and kaboom!.....the handle on the coffee pot breaks off, first the VERY hot coffee spills all over my legs and bare feet, then the pot hits the ground with glass shattering all over and while coffee is almost hitting every square inch of the floor! Swell!
What I was really most upset about was not getting a cup of coffee! ugh!

A few days ago our refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen died.....just after I had stocked both up with a months worth of groceries......most of those went in the garbage since I didn't realize the fridge died until late in the evening. (that's just great to run across right before bed)

And, one of the lenses in my glasses has cracked. I think we should be good for things breaking now......they say these things happen in 3's, so I hope we're good for awhile.

Luckily we have an older fridge in our mudroom that we mostly keep drinks in that is now in the kitchen. I find it interesting that our 10 year old fridge died before the 30 year old (mudroom fridge) one that is still running. They just don't make things like they used to. And, funny enough, I think I like the old fridge better.....much more room! Plus, now I am rearranging our mudroom and will have more storage!....bonus...the silver lining!

The last time the whole things in 3's theory took place was the dishwasher, oven and hot water tank....that was just a few months ago. Brother!....this has not been a good year to be an appliance at our house!

Its really makeup!

::When I put this phrase up on the bathroom wall a few years ago above the mirror I didn't realize how appropriate it would be until now.......
::Ya know those silly little toys you pass by (or sometimes run by to avoid your child noticing they are there) in the grocery store toy aisle?  Well last night we had to run in to the store for bread and ice cream, and as we're heading down the bread aisle I had a brain lasp and forgot to sprint by the toy section......she spotted this makeup kit! I've bought her a little Barbie makeup kit in the past that had pretend makeup in it, so when I saw this I thought.....okay, I'm having a weak moment....we'll get the silly little makeup kit. (of course the whole time I'm assuming its pretend....not actual makeup powder).
:: When we get home from the store I see that she's opened her prize and thought it was kind of funny as I'm walking by I see some blue on her face......well then it hits me like a train as I'm already in the next room that the makeup is REAL! Oh Brother! Ever try to take a new prize away from a 3  year old? (Its not for the faint of heart!)
::Instead of taking it away I decided we should at least move to the bathroom so it wouldn't get all over and so she could see her work in the mirror.....(thinking that she would see this blue stuff all over her face and think, ick, get it off). WRONG! She thought she looked fabulous and was so proud! Again, Oh Brother!
::Maybe today I can convince her that the blue eyeshadow doesn't belong on her cheeks?!...LOL!

Bubbles

Time to Mow

Well, she takes after her mom is all I can say. As we went out the door yesterday morning she looks at the grass, then looks at me and says, "mom, don't you think you should be getting this lawn mowed?" She was quite happy when I suggested we buy her a lawn mower so she could help (shhhh, don't tell her that it doesn't really cut the grass....that would tick her off) hee hee
Look at the serious look on her face in the top photo....she makes her mother proud.....I like seeing the dedication.....hee hee
The mower is supposed to blow bubbles as you push it, but we have found out that as usual the product in the box doesn't quite live up to the picture on the box. You have to be going approximately 3.2 miles per hour with no wind in order for the thing to actually shoot out bubbles. Kind of disappointing, but she still loves that she can mow the lawn like me.

What to do with a Hula Hoop...

What's that? This isn't how your family uses the Hula Hoop? Why not? Makes a great "WHO HORN".....we think it looks like something from Dr. Suess :0)
(notice I wasn't caught in the act like these two goofballs!)

:: The Hula Hoop is said to be an ancient invention used by the greeks as a form of exercise.

:: In 1958 the Hula Hoop became an american favorite with its production by manufacturer Wham-O.
Twenty million Wham-O Hula Hoops sold for $1.98 in the first 6 months!

:: Japan once banned the Hula Hoop, because the rotating hip action seemed indecent.....I wonder what they would think of our family's use of the Hula Hoop?  hee hee

Mobius for kids

Today we went to Mobius. It was our first time there and Anna loved it! For those of you who aren't familiar, its a MUCH smaller version of something like Seattle Center.
Its a great place for a rainy day and kids play.

This is what I get for being on the phone....

Okay, I admit that I was probably on the phone a little longer than I should have been today....guilty mom, guilty mom! I was actually still on the phone when Anna comes to find me in the kitchen and says, "I didn't do nothing mom" (Whoo, how's that for good grammar?)....as she has her hands over her eyes. At this point I don't even see her hands covered in what from a distance looks like amateur henna tattoos. Also, my curiosity was peaked at wondering what she meant by "nothing". So I asked her to show me what "nothing" was. She walked me out to the living room and then I caught a glimpse of her hands and arms and realized "nothing" was a pen!  Whew! I can stop imagining all of the things that she might have broken or the spilled paint or whatever else she could have done.
I probably really confused her when instead of disciplining her for writing all over her hands I got out the camera. hee hee

All I can think of is the 60's show "Laugh In"

You would think the same thing if you witnessed her riding her trike in person. She tips over a lot!.....I'm not laughing at her, I'm laughing with her.....Its not her fault though, we have a lot of cracks and seams in the driveway and that little trike just doesn't take them well. She has a bigger trike, but she can't reach the pedals on that one yet.

At last, the park...

...and some play time with Daddy!
The sun was shining and no snow on the ground. Happy Day!

You can tell I'm bored when I'm willing to put myself in the pictures!

I don't know about you, but Anna and I are tired of this weather.....so we've been doing whatever it takes to entertain ourselves. This time it was taking pictures with the computer.....Out of 20 pictures I was able to capture 2 where she wasn't a moving blur. I need some of her energy. I think tonight we'll try to see if we can get some with Michael/Daddy. Its pretty funny to watch Anna see herself on the computer. She tries to make the silliest face possible.
